VINIMOL OVERDOSE

ABSTRACT:
Background and objectives: Viminol is a non-opioid analgesic, with a structure that is unique, derived from p-ethalonamine, with a potent analgesic effect, 3,5-5,5 times more potent than morphine, without central nervous system depression as a side effect, used in the clinical practice for post-operative analgesia, especially in dental procediures.
Case: M.C.M.S, female, 13 years old, ingested 1 gram of Viminol, in a attempt of suicide, presenting with hipoxemia, metabolic acidosis and metahemoglobynemia.
Conclusion: the case in hand brings to discussion the possible side effect of metabolic acidosis and metahemoglobynemia when high doses of Viminol are used, seeing as there are no cases previously reported in pediatric patients.
